How BetUnfair Actually Measures Its Pinnacle Latency

September 22, 2026

If you go to our Coverage page you’ve probably seen the number 750ms next to Pinnacle. That’s the maximum delay on Pinnacle’s price reaching our system. But a number like that is easy to state and hard to actually explain. This blog explains what it means, how it’s measured and a couple of things worth knowing alongside it.

Where Does the Price Data Come From?

BetUnfair gets its Pinnacle pricing from an odds feed provider not from a direct connection to Pinnacle’s own commercial API. A feed provider sits between Pinnacle and BetUnfair and that’s the real setup behind the number.

What “750ms” Is Actually Measuring?

A timestamp is just the exact moment something happened recorded down to the millisecond. When Pinnacle changes a price that moment gets a timestamp. When that price shows up in BetUnfair’s system that moment gets a timestamp too. The gap between the two is what we’re measuring (750ms).

That’s an important distinction. It’s not measuring how often BetUnfair happens to check for updates. We take the time Pinnacle says the price changed and compare it to the time that price actually reaches our system.

It’s also worth being clear that 750ms is a maximum, not an average. In practice the real delay is often well under that. On the website itself the number you see can be slightly higher because of network limitations getting the update from our system to your screen and that is something we’re actively working to reduce.

A Note on Pinnacle’s Anti-Scraping Policy

Pinnacle has recently tightened enforcement against unauthorized use of its data. Worth being direct about this: it does not affect BetUnfair’s Pinnacle odds monitoring in any way. Our pricing comes through a licensed feed provider and that setup is unchanged.

Why Does This Matter to You?

None of this changes what BetUnfair does day to day. It just means you get an honest, checkable answer to how fast is “fast” instead of a number with nothing behind it.

If you use Pinnacle’s price as your reference for spotting value on a soft book, what matters most is that the number is fast and accurate. A claim that it’s under a second doesn’t mean much if it can’t tell you which two timestamps it’s measuring. This one can.

FAQ

Does BetUnfair connect directly to Pinnacle’s own data feed?
No. BetUnfair sources Pinnacle pricing through an odds feed provider not a direct connection to Pinnacle’s commercial API.

What does BetUnfair’s “750ms max delay” on Pinnacle actually measure?
The time from Pinnacle’s own recorded “changed at” timestamp for a price move to the moment that price arrives in BetUnfair’s alerting and archival system. It is a maximum not an average and the real delay is often lower.

Is the 750ms figure based on a polling interval?
No. It is measured continuously against Pinnacle’s own timestamps not against how often BetUnfair’s system happens to check for updates.

Why might the delay look slightly higher on the website itself than 750ms?
That extra stretch is normal network time getting the update from BetUnfair’s system to your screen, separate from the feed latency itself and it’s something the team is actively working to reduce.

Does Pinnacle’s stricter policy on unauthorized data use affect BetUnfair?
No. Our team can confirm this does not affect Pinnacle odds monitoring on the platform.

Why does it matter how odds latency is measured, not just the headline number?
Because a bettor using a sharp book’s price as a reference for value needs to know that reference is both fast and accurate. A speed claim with no explanation behind it isn’t something you can actually verify or trust.
